We all know what it's like to resist good, God, light, love, truth, evidence, life, and grace. We do it; others do it. We doubt God's promises. We covet the fruits of darkness. Romans 3:10-12. Explain how it is possible to choose such woe for even one moment, here on Earth, before you reject Biblical evidence that some harden their hearts so much that they will resist forever! Heaven and Hell and Love!
Biblical evidence that humans may actually be able to harden their hearts enough to prefer Hell over Heaven includes: Heaven and Hell and Love!
a. on the borders of the Promised Land, God's people tried to stone Joshua and Caleb for trying to talk them out of returning to slavery! Numbers 14:2-10.
b. Faced with irrefutable evidence of Jesus' divinity, the Pharisees preferred God dead!
c. Rather than repent in the face of God's obvious judgment, people will curse God! Revelation 16:9, 11, 21.
d. Satan was the greatest of God's angels! Revelation 12:7-9. Satan was smarter than any man! He knew what he was doing! Yet he chose, and still chooses, to rebel.
e. Adam and Eve were in Paradise, yet chose different conditions.
We can look around us for modern examples of huge magnitudes of preference for suffering over joy. Heaven and Hell and Love!
We see people living in filthy homes, yards, and offices, who angrily reject offers to help clean! Heaven and Hell and Love!
We see people jumping from one messy, abusive, ruinous romance to the next, who stop their ears and scream at Biblical advice how to straighten their lives around! Heaven and Hell and Love!
We see people actually preferring "heavy metal" "music" obsessed with hate, death, suicide, murder, Hell, the Devil, anarchy, etc., while mocking sweet traditional Gospel hymns rendered in peaceful classical styles! Heaven and Hell and Love!
We see people whose greatest desire is to "escape" from the adventures and challenges of Life, to a demonic world of nightmares and hangovers, through drink and drugs! Heaven and Hell and Love!
We see people who literally worship Satan, blaspheme God, and "sacrifice" innocent blood! Who worship witchcraft voodoo religions whose chief goal is to curse others! Who obey the Koran in enslaving, torturing, and killing followers of Jesus Whom even the Koran says was a great prophet! Heaven and Hell and Love!
God's critics say "a loving God would never create Hell". But won't you ask them, with me, "if God were to drag some of these people into Heaven, would they not curse? And will not some blackened hearts fit no better in the joyful presence of God, in Heaven, than in the torments of Hell?" Heaven and Hell and Love!
It is premature to question how it is possible for souls to resist God for all eternity, before this question can be explained: “How is it possible for souls to resist God, even for a moment?” Heaven and Hell and Love!
What is the loving response of a parent to a child who would rather throw a tantrum than enjoy his toys and friends? Who would rather whine about his parents' refusal to give "more", than thank his parents for what they are still sacrificially giving? Heaven and Hell and Love!
Obviously external conditions, no matter how joyful, loving, excellent, or pleasurable, cannot make anybody happy. So when an immature parent loves to complain rather than count blessings, gossip rather than be a friend, or blame rather than confess, God knows what every parent knows whose brain has not been damaged by books of child discipline gimmicks: a "spoiled" child offered toys and candy for silence is literally more miserable than a corrected child temporarily deprived of both. Not even Heaven will satisfy lovers of mayhem, death, and Hell. Remedial action, however, offers some hope. Heaven and Hell and Love!
Not 100% hope. Not every child administered the most loving possible correction is reformed. Can every adult be reformed by God's most loving, possible, correction? No. Ponder the above list. Heaven and Hell and Love!
The real question is not, "What will happen to all those other wicked people with bad attitudes?" But, rather, "will YOU harden your heart so much that the very Presence of God will not be close enough to Heaven for you? So much that, without the mercy of Hell, your imagination and attitude will plunge you into darkness worse than Hell? Heaven and Hell and Love!
